Dragon Ball, the television show, was first based off of a Japanese Manga series written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama. It contained 519 individual chapters that were later published into 42 volumes. These 42 volumes were later adapted into three different anime series - Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT. There were also seventeen animated feature films and three television series. In addition, a new live action film, Dragonball: Evolution, is set to be released this year on April 8, 2009!
Aside from its wide television and movie fan base, Dragonball has also inspired a number of video games and card games.
